As I was watching the confirmation hearings for Judge Sotomayor, I heard Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) say that elections matter. He said that because President Obama won, some deference to his selection of a candidate for the Supreme Court must be made. Later I saw an editorial in the paper along those same lines.
This really struck a nerve with me, because the day before this all took place, my good friend Arnold P. put forth a theory on the tactics that the Republican Party should adopt. That tactic labeled by Arnold was “Elections Have Consequences.” After some thought on the idea, Arnold may have a point. Here is the theory:
65 million misguided people voted for our current socialist President. The policies of the administration should not be fought to the death by the Republicans. The people, however misguided, misled, or uninformed, asked for, voted for, and received an ultra-liberal president. There are consequences to that vote. The Republicans should voice their reasoning for disagreeing with the socialist policies, and then vote to approve whatever comes up.
If your savior wants to own General Motors, all the banks, insurance companies, institute universal health care, punish hard working people by taxing them out of business, or travel around the world groveling to dictators and our enemies, that is what you get. You voted for this form of government.
If you don’t like this new socialism that our fellow citizens have brought upon us, you will have 40 months of failed liberal policies to motivate you to make a change for the better. 40 months to voice your opinion to the mainstream media that we will not accept their slanted reporting, or their liberal bias. 40 months of incredibly bad tasting medicine to remind us not to let the media select our moderate candidate the is capable of “reaching across the aisle.”
That is not what makes this Country great. Having hard working people driving an economy because hard work matters and is rewarded is what has made us successful. We are not socialists, waiting around for a government handout…we create wealth by investing in the free spirit of capitalism. Maybe we got too comfortable and thought there would be no end to the expansion. We were sadly mistaken. We got that cold shower wake-up call in the form of a socialist who is ripping every institution that made this Country apart with the help of a wimpy emasculated Congress full of his lemmings.
There is some good news, you really have only 16 months until mid-term elections! If you want, you can do what was done in 1994. Take Congress back from the liberals. If you choose, we can all have 40 more months of socialism.
If the electorate is not asleep or in a haze created by the media, maybe we can return to the foundations that made us the last remaining superpower. I think the bad taste in our mouths from these four years will remind people that elections do have consequences, and we better pay more attention next time. I don’t believe we should just throw up our hands and say “You asked for it, you got it”, but I am inclined to hold my severe fights for the most important socialist policies, like universal healthcare. That $1.5 TRILLION price tag looms large!
