$14,025,215,218,708.52

January 3, 2011

Happy New Year everyone.  I pray that you have a wonderful and prosperous new year.  Millions of capitalists are counting on you!

Unfortunately, the bad news keeps coming with Obama at the helm…the U.S. Treasury reported that as of the last day of 2010, the National Debt stood at $14,025,215,218,708.52.  It took only 7 months for the National Debt to increase from $13 trillion to over $14 trillion on Dec. 31.

This is a national crisis that has to be dealt with immediately.  Repealling socalized medicine is a good start.  We have to cut spending.  I have seen many liberals writing about “gridlock”, but if that gridlock means we put a stop to this socialist administration’s policies, I’m all for it.  With this socialist in the White House, $20 trillion in debt cant be that far away.

Update:  Here is a stat I saw today, very telling.

In the 1,461 days that Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) served as speaker of the House, the national debt increased by a total of $5.343 trillion ($5,343,452,800,321.37) or $3.66 billion per day ($3.657,394,113.84), according to official debt numbers published by the U.S. Treasury.

Groping or Non-Groping

November 22, 2010

Did I miss a recent high jacking?  I realize that about a year ago, a terrorist had an improvised explosive device in his underwear after getting on a plane in Amsterdam.  I also remember that idiot Napolitano didn’t seem too concerned about it.  Now, a year later, big sis has implemented outrageous screening of passengers including taking nude pictures.  If you don’t want the pictures, you can subject yourself to a full body search where a friendly TSA agent can grope you.

Most of you know I am a law and order guy.  Security has an important place in protecting the flying public.  I understand the need to x-ray luggage, send my shoes to be x-rayed, and walk through a metal detector.  The question comes down to how secure can we make our flights without each of us being shackled into a seat naked?  The TSA has existed for almost 10 years and they have kept US boarded flights safe without these draconian procedures.  Why the change now?

Just by living in the greatest country in the world, and no matter what our socialist president says, we are targets.  Thousands of people in this world would go to their deaths for the opportunity to kill Americans.  No matter how much security you deploy, there is always a chance that a terrorist will be successful.  The government cannot solve all our problems or make you completely safe.  There has to be a balance between making our flights safe and negatively impacting commerce.  We have gone over the edge.  This socialist administration will defend these infringements on our civil liberties because they know what is best for us.  How dare we question their actions?

The real loser here will be the airline industry.  Obama and his hoodlums do not care if they drive the entire industry out of business, they can just bail them out with more printed money, or even better, take over the air transportation themselves.  They already have a car company!

I think the TSA had been doing a good job in maintaining a balance of security and efficiency.  The security lines were never too long and we have that statistic where no planes have been taken.  The new measures are unnecessary and dilute the freedoms we are guaranteed.  We as a Country were warned about this incremental erosion of our liberties:

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

Say no to these intrusive unnecessary searches.  Our liberty is far more important.  Just as an example, here is a video of a young boy being strip searched by TSA personnel that pushes common sense over the edge:

1 Year and Counting!

May 22, 2010

On May 22, 2009, I published my first blog.  It only took four months of living under the rule of our current President to motivate me to become more active in politics.  This has been an interesting year.  It has also been an education.  (I never thought I would participate in a demonstration.)

I started writing a blog because I hate the direction our Country is going.  The liberal agenda is contrary to the vast majority of principles this Country was founded upon, and contrary to the majority opinion.  In writing the articles, I have had to think about what I believe, and competently defend conservative stances.  The background research done on each entry has assisted me in clarifying the issues in my own thought process.  It has made me a better debater and has also focused my arguments to be more persuasive.

One thing that has surprised me is how hostile and divided the opposite ends of the political spectrum are.  I have been called every name in the book.  I usually do not allow those filthy comments to be posted.  I also realize that I frequently am sarcastic, demeaning, and hostile toward those idiot liberals (oops, sorry) that believe they have some special knowledge or insight on how my life should be lived.  My friends know that I always seem to write more passionately when Obama does something that really irritates me, like calling me a right-wing extremist.  I have to say that I do enjoy writing angry and I try to illicit emotional responses from others, both for and against me.

Thank you for reading my blog this year.  Thousands of people have visited the site and hundreds have left comments.  This is my 40th post.  There have been times when there is so much to write about it is a little overwhelming, and then there have been weeks where I haven’t felt the motivation to write.  I would also like to thank the guys from work for the spirited discussions that have been the impetus for many of the posts.

I hope to keep writing for many years to come.  Unfortunately with Obama and his hoard of extremists, I should have an almost infinite amount of material to keep me busy.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation

June 22, 2009

If I was still in school, I would have a great example of why this Country is great to tell.  I just spent a week buried neck deep in American History.  I went to Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and Washington DC with my wife, kids, and father-in-law.  I want to show you a few photos, and then tell you about a demonstration I found myself in the middle of.

Our first full day out was spent in Gettysburg.  It was about my fifth trip there, but my family had never been there before.  I love the place, and so did the family.  This was my first trip since the new visitor’s center opened.  It is fantastic.  It rained the entire time we were there, but we bought the auto tour CD and saw the battlefield that way.  Here are a couple of pictures:

In Philadelphia, we saw Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and many of the sights around the old town.  The weather was a little rainy, but the temperature was very nice.  In Philly, the entire family participated in an experiment to see which steak sandwich was better, Geno’s or Pat’s.  After buying $60 worth of Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, the original vote was 2-2, but my father-in-law said both were good, so Geno’s wins 2-1-1.  I liked Geno’s better.

In Washington, we took the Capitol Tour through the new visitor’s center.  It was very well organized and time well spent.  After that, we went to another of my favorites, Arlington National Cemetery.  This was also the first time for the family.  This place never ceases to leave me with feelings of awe and thankfulness.

On the second day in Washington, and as I walked up to the front of the White House on 17th Street, I looked to the left and in Lafayette Park, a Pro-Iranian rally was taking place.  I immediately told my wife that this is the reason America is an incredible Country.  Here was a group of mostly Iranian nationals, peacefully demonstrating within 500 feet of the President of the United States.  The group was loud, but I never felt like they were violent.  What would have happened if this group was in Iran?  They would be getting the crap beat out of them.  Look at the coverage out of Iran and how the protestors are being dealt with. This is the same Iran is that Obama wants to engage in talks?  We don’t even know if they will survive this crisis.  It is the same thing that happened in Venezuela, fake votes to keep a regime in power.  I wonder if Carter thought the Iran election was fair too?

Here is my close-up view of freedom of speech in action:

We must all remember that we did not just receive the freedoms we enjoy because we deserved them.  Many men and women fought and died to provide us with this gift.  Hopefully our use of their gift honors their memory and sacrifice.

Captain Ras is Blogging!

May 22, 2009

I have wanted to do this for a long time. If you have seen messages I have written on different websites, I am usually on the conservative side of most arguments. I am going to use this Blog to explore issues more deeply than is possible by simply responding to articles that usually upset me.

I am no fan of my hometown newspaper, The Miami Herald, but at least there is an avenue for us to exchange comments and ideas. Unfortunately, many of the comments put forth are penned by morons. I enjoy spirited debate between persons that articulate positions from their own perspective. That does not mean posts are or will be unemotional. I have heartfelt and deeply held positions that I will defend without ever backing down. Wasted responses are where idiots make comments only meant to inflame without reasons for their beliefs.

I will cause extreme discourse with some of my views, but a worthy opponent is far more desireable than moronic name calling. Responses will be posted as long as they are more than name calling.

I look forward to writing on politics. I keep mostly to national issues, however, I do dabble in local concerns. We have lots to discuss with our new socialist dictator, I mean President. I also look forward to hearing from you and participating in meaningful debate. Let me apologize in advance for responses that seem sarcastic or demeaning.  :-)
