I suppose he was referencing a WSJ poll from back in March. The real number isn't 80%. It's more like 66%. Check out Bruce Bartlett's blog for a summary of polls from the last 3 months.

"I hope a true conservative moves forward to take the lead." Well said, and I am convinced that is the hope of the majority of Americans. As you pointed out, America is not a left-leaning country... for the most part we are a freedom-loving, small-government, rugged individualism people.

My fear is this: there will be no candidates that are motivational leaders and true fiscal conservatives in one package. The success of candidate Obama was largely due to his charismatic personality coupled with a message of change. Since President Bush was NOT a fiscal conservative, the true conservatives were disenfranchised, and the change message really took hold.

If it is good practice for families to not spend more money than they have & to plan for the future from a fiscal sense, I believe we must hold OUR government to the same standards. Agenda item #1 for the new president: A balanced budget & a real plan to pay down the debt. This plan must include drastic cuts to social(ist) programs that the fed's have no business being involved in from the outset. Redistribution of wealth among the states is absolutely absurdely socialist, and it must be halted.

Let's hope for the true conservative you asked for, Captain Ras.

Thanks for the kind word Alex. You are absolutely correct that we as parents need to teach our children. Letting the education system be the only voice or point of view they are exposed to is crazy. That sounds like a future blog entry.

All too often we raise our kids to be apathetic to how quickly things can go wrong. Our country has either been doing well or has rebounded well. Some see this cycle as natural and neglect to teach younger generations about the importance of being politically educated, discussing what you know, and voting to have a say in your destiny. Congrats for taking the time to teach your son to not only care about something but to express it.
