Country Under Seige

June 19, 2010

Having been in law enforcement for more than 23 years, I have developed an attitude that we should not accept lawlessness. When criminals believe they can act with impunity, it is up to the official charged with protecting the citizenry to step up, take action, and return the affected areas to a condition that allows law abiding citizens to feel secure in their person. It is disgusting that the Federal government does not see this situation the same way.

Since October 2006, 3500 acres in the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge have been off-limits to American citizens because of the danger of violent drug traffickers entering the United States of America from Mexico. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service closed the area and said they have no plans to re-open it. I guess they will just ignore the problem, keep closing areas of the Country, and hope the lawlessness stops.

This situation is completely unacceptable. We cannot allow pieces of our nation, our National Parks, or our cities to be ruled by criminals. I can see the meeting with my bosses now. “Captain, there is a significant amount of gang activity in neighborhood X. Please do something about it.” I don’t think I would last very long if my response was to make the area off-limits to law abiding citizens. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service posted signs to keep us out of areas in the park. I guess I could ask them to send me some signs to put up around neighborhood X. That would do the trick! NOT! I think my bosses would say something like “If you can’t get the problem solved, we’ll find someone who can.” That needs to be done here.

We need to control our borders and punish those who cannot respect our laws. Intense enforcement action of drug and immigration laws should be vigorously implemented. It is a travesty of justice that parts of America can be closed because we refuse to stand up for law. Can you imagine shutting down portions of Washington D.C.? This is no different. We must require the officials charged with protecting the Country to do their jobs, or they should be replaced.

In The (small) Car Business Now

challenger

I went to Tamiami Chrysler Jeep Dodge today to look for a new Challenger. I was thinking of replacing my pristine condition ’81 Corvette with an up-to-date muscle car with all the modern amenities. Tamiami Chrysler Jeep Dodge is the leading Chrysler dealership in Miami-Dade County, #3 in the State of Florida, and in the top 100 in the Country.  Unfortunately, the bankruptcy court has sided with Chrysler’s plan to emerge from Chapter 11 which includes closing this dealership along with 788 other dealers.

I bet you are wondering where this is going…I sit here asking myself why does the Socialist President Obama’s administration have anything to do with this?  You and I, through our new socialist’s administration, brokered a deal where a 35 percent of Chrysler will be sold to Fiat, 55 percent will go to the workers, and the US and Canadian government share the remaining 10 percent stake in the company.

What does Chrysler get?  They get technology to make small and fuel efficient cars.  The Obama Administration is going to cause another run on a product.  The last time was with guns because they are sure to be banned.  Now it will be muscle cars, because Americans have no business being different from the rest of the world.  I guess we will all be driving Yugos soon.  I wonder how I am going to fit in that car?

Back to the dealership.  I saw the owner, Mr. Planas, in the lobby.  I told him that I hoped the situation would work out in his favor.  It is un-American for hard working and successful people to be put out of business by the government.  I told him this was just another example of socialism taking over our Country.  The salesman told me that tomorrow, June 9, Chrysler will take all the cars off the lot and send them to other dealers.  100 people will lose their jobs at one of the most successful dealerships in the Country.  This is insane.  What happened to the concept that being successful meant you continued in business?  The government needs to get out of the car business, the insurance business, the mortgage business, the healthcare business, and everything else they are into now.  Late today, Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsburg issued a temporary order to delay the sale of the assets to Fiat.  Hopefully, this will give them some time.

I didn’t buy the car, I really had my heart set on the Challenger in Hemi-Orange. They only had blue and black.  I guess I will have to go to one of the government approved dealerships and hope that our elected dictator will allow me to buy I car I would like to drive.

Where Do You Get Your News?

May 31, 2009

My brother John sent me a link to a news story about the Justice Department dropping voter intimidation charges on members of the New Black Panther Party in Philadelphia.

Here is the link:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/29/protecting-black-panthers/

I had seen the story before, but what raised my interest and generated my desire to write this blog was the website that John got the story from.  The Washington Times.  I had seen the story on Fox News, but I didn’t recall seeing it anywhere else.  That got me thinking, Where do you go to be well informed about the happenings around the Country?

Everyone that knows me knows I dislike and distrust the media.  I believe that a free press is a cornerstone of our liberty.  Without investigative reporting, officials may be tempted to trample the rights of citizens without consequences.  We are governed because we allow ourselves to be.  The free press is suppose to be one of the checks and balances in our system of government.

Unfortunately, our current media outlets filter news stories and information to shape public opinion and society norms.  The vast majority of media outlets have become agents of ideology rather than purveyors of facts.  They claim to “report news” when they in fact produce “editorial comment”.

Back to the story John sent me…I did some searching of news sites.  Guess what?  No network news site, not ABC, NBC, CBS, nor CNN, MSNBC, or my local fish wrapper, The Miami Herald, have word one on the Justice Department dropping charges in this voter intimidation case.  You can read the article and ask yourself, why don’t I know about this?

Isn’t the Justice Department supposed to protect the rights of the citizenry by enforcing laws against intimidation of voters?  And when a socialist President has his representative (the Attorney General) drop charges in a case like this, who do we rely on to bring this outrage to the people?  An unbiased and free press.  We don’t have that anymore.  So what is a person of conscious to do?  Maybe start blogging…maybe make it easier for people to get all sides of a story or even know that there is a story, as in this case.

There is a place that is developing into a storehouse for information, YouTube.  Now when I see a story, the first thing I do is look on YouTube for information.  I looked at YouTube and found many videos on this story.  There are almost 2 million views of the various videos.  So the “mainstream media” can bury their heads in the sand, be an agent of the government’s current ideology, and pretend things don’t exist or only report stories that fit their political ideals.  Thankfully, there are people in this Country willing to stand up and report the good and bad.  That is the only way that the government will continue to work for us, rather than the other way around.

In case you want to see the video of voter intimidation, here it is, but remember that as far as the U.S. Government is concerned, this is fine:
